| Wickliffe Announces Bid for City Council in Midlothian |
Jamie Wickliffe has announced her candidacy for Midlothian City Council Place 1. The City of Midlothian will hold a special election on November 3, 2009 to fill the unexpired term for the seat vacated by Councilman Dusty Fryer. Jamie is a longtime resident of the community. She attended Midlothian Schools for 12 years and is a proud MHS alumni. Mrs. Wickliffe is the owner of Coldwell Banker Americana Realtors Real Estate Brokerage and J.S. Wickliffe and Company Real Estate Appraisal firm. She has been a self employed business owner in the community for 20+ years. Jamie has been married to Gerald Wickliffe, Jr., her high school sweetheart, for 29 years. Together, they chose to raise their four children in Midlothian. Keri (their oldest) and son-in-law Scott Chandler along with their children Destiny, Alexis and Scott Chandler, Jr. make their home here in Midlothian. Eric and his wife Kristina and their son Ethan also reside here. The twins, Kati and Clark, are 14 and attend Frank Seale Middle School. Gerald and Jamie consider having their children and grandchildren nearby as a huge blessing. | Jamie is no stranger to public service having volunteered in the community for over 25 years. In the past, she has served as the President of the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce, President of the Ellis County Public Officials, President of the Ellis- Hill Board of Realtors and President of the Economic Development Commission. She served in Place 1 on the Midlothian City Council for 12 years and acted as Mayor Pro Tem for a portion of that time. Prior to her council service, she served on the Planning and Zoning Commission and has been involved in long range planning sessions for the community. She has served as a committee chair for the local Relay for Life event and co-chaired the National Paralysis Foundation prior to Eric’s accident. She currently serves as the President of the Midlothian Education Foundation and as a board member on the Midlothian Economic Development Corporation. She is also the proud chauffeur of a Frank Seale Cub football player, a Frank Seale student council member, and a Vitesse soccer team mom.
“With the issues at hand, I can’t sit idly by when I know I can make a positive difference for the families of Midlothian.” |
When asked – Why would you return to politics after a seven year retirement? Jamie responds – “Because I care. I care about this community and this city. My family lives here, my business is here and I believe city hall can do better for the residents of this community. With the issues at hand, I can’t sit idly by when I know I can make a positive difference for the families of Midlothian. The concerns facing our community have never been more important.” Jamie comes from a long line of service to this community. Her grandparents Margie and the late E.L. Webb owned and operated the local hardware store for 30+ years. E.L. Webb taught his children and grandchildren to give back to the community in which they live. He was a driving force in community service for over 50 years and he helped build the civic center, JayCee Park, the high school field house, First United Methodist Church and the J.R. Irvin gym. Says Jamie “I am proud of the many things Grandaddy brought to this community. He donated the land for the Margie Webb Park and helped start the first volunteer fire department here in Midlothian.” | “I am proud of my hometown and our community that has worked hard to plan for the future; but I am disappointed that there is in-fighting that crowds the front page of every decision. My past public service and voting record provide the voters an opportunity to review my history, position and experience. I think all of the citizens of Midlothian are ready for a change. The existing citizen/city partnership is badly broken. I welcome questions concerning the current issues. I have a proven record of having an open mind and listening ears and will look for good solutions from all perspectives. I believe that I bring to the council table and public life that unique perspective of someone who has worked hard, has had to balance a budget, fights for the fair treatment of property owners, and understands that we all want and need our voices to be heard. Please VOTE!”
